WINNIPEG, Manitoba: At East Kildonan Dental Clinic on Henderson Highway, you can no longer book an appointment after 7:00 p.m. The reason? As a team, the clinic has opted to prioritize time at home with their loved ones. As pandemic restrictions recede, they have confidently taken the perspective that a healthy work-life balance will benefit both them and their patients.
Originally established in 1949, EK Dental has become a staple in the East Kildonan Community over the years. Offering a variety of dental services, the current four-dentist team continues the tradition of seeing their patients as family–a very big, extended family. “People don’t care about how much you know until they know about how much you care,” says EK Dental owner Dr. Perry Kimelman, citing his basic philosophy. “When you walk through our doors, you are welcomed with warmth–and even treated to our special brand of dental humour.”
Recently, EK Dental decided to reduce its business hours. Instead of staying open until 8:00 p.m., it now closes its doors by 7:00 p.m. While it’s not common to hear of a successful business cutting down its work hours, Kimelman firmly believes it’s a healthy choice that will result in healthier staff and happier patients. “In the wake of the pandemic,” says Kimelman, “We’ve realized what really matters. While we still offer long office hours, we’re cutting back a little to spend more time with our loved ones.”
EK Dental is open from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and closed on Sundays. Some COVID protocols have been lifted at the clinic. Masks are now optional, and business is back to normal, while still maintaining their high standard of disinfection and cleanliness you’ve come to know so that their patients, staff and visitors always feel safe in their care.
