The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) provides families without dental insurance with access to dental care by paying a portion of the costs of dental care directly to providers that opt to participate in the program. The team at East Kildonan Dental Group are proud to announce that they’re now accepting CDCP, and are providing dental services through the plan to eligible patients.
To understand how this change could impact you, you must first determine whether or not you qualify for the CDCP. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:
In addition to these qualifications, the CDCP has been launched in stages. As of August 2024, it is available to the following groups:
The federal government is aiming to expand the CDCP to all remaining eligible residents by 2025.
The CDCP will not cover your costs in full; at its highest level of coverage, the program only covers 74% of the provincial fee guide’s prices, so you will always pay some amount out of pocket.
Additionally, the CDCP offers less coverage for families earning between $70,000 and $89,999 a year:
Given that the CDCP’s established fees are less than the provincial fee guides, families earning between $70,000 and $89,999 will have to pay a substantial portion out of pocket; we can help you plan accordingly.
Currently, the CDCP only covers basic care, including cleanings, oral exams, fillings, root canals, and some oral surgeries. In November 2024, the federal government plans to introduce pre-authorization to allow Canadians to access more treatment options.
Talk to us about your oral health care; we’ll be able to tell you whether or not a particular treatment is eligible under the CDCP.
Not every dental clinic has opted to participate in the CDCP; only clinics that have opted in can offer coverage through the program. The team at East Kildonan Dental Group are proud to offer dental services through the CDCP. We believe the program is essential to improving the dental health of all Canadians, and we look forward to taking on new patients and assisting existing patients through the program.
